Last weekend I went up to Vancouver for the first time to participate in the Gentlemen’s Reserve. It was a collection of makers mostly from the Pacific Northwest and a great group of people. I was only up for 3 days and spent most of my time hanging around our table, meeting people and selling soap. With the little time I had to peruse the city, I can’t wait to go back.
Beside our packaged bars (Maak Soap Lab), we found this old Detecto scale to sell raw soap by the ounce. This thing must have logged a couple tons before we got it and the original case holds up as well.
We had the treat of carrying these antlers from Antler & Co up. They’re wrapped in cedar chips and give a good kick to the nose when you open the box.
I don’t usually seek out a meal of pure meat but after recommendation after the next from the locals I decided to give Meat and Bread a shot. It was easily one of the best tasting meals I’ve had in the past six months and ridiculously rich. If ever in Vancouver, go to Meat and Bread and get the Porchetta with mushroom soup.
The Gastown neighborhood has a lot of great shops, one of my favorites being Old Faithful. From terrariums to slingshots, they’ve got you covered.
-How could I pass through Seattle and not visit this beautiful building. A must watch if you haven’t heard of it before.
Last night we opened the flagship store for Tanner Goods. We spent yesterday swinging hammers and pouring elbow grease on everything filling the shelves and it paid off. A lot of great people showed up to get their hands on some leather and take in the handcrafted air. It was a fun day all around.
